Like all natural greases, Kevin Bacon's Hoof Dressing becomes hard in winter because it contains no solvents or crude oil derivatives.*
So there is also a winter formula that is 25% richer in oil to keep the Hoof Dressing soft and creamy even in colder weather.
*Used in some other brands:
- solvents give the grease a constant consistency but dry out the hoof wall.
- crude oil derivatives, such as paraffin and tar, clog the horn's pores, keep the hoof from breathing, and seal anaerobic bacteria in the foot, where they can proliferate and lead to thrush.
