They are provided with breathable panels in those areas most subject to sweating, so as to improve comfort and keep the feet as dry and cool as possible.
My foot is not particularly wide but these boots are particularly narrow and so are the heel/soles.... So it would be easy enough to tweak an ankle. So not overly impressed and very disappointed as they are awesome looking boots
